Hawaiian Boho Garden Feature on Wedding Chicks

Our very first styled shoot took place in April. Before I even had a website or more than a handful of inventory items! As a designer for Bustle Events this shoot had to be a good one as it was my introduction to Hawaii for both planning and rentals. I found the entire vendor team from Instagram and we came up with a beautiful concept!

I knew bringing in the native floral and cultural elements were important from the get-go but it was also crucial that the design reflected my personal style. Romantic, bohemian, undone, but classically elegant... BAM! From doing my research, it appeared the overall design of "Hawaiian weddings" hasn't changed in the past 10 years. It's now my mission to prove that weddings on the islands can be stunning and unique. Let's please stop copying every other beach wedding you've seen and just DO YOU!

As the granddaughter of Japanese plantation workers on Oahu and being married to a Filipino who's parents immigrated to the islands, tying in cultural details was so fun! I think incorporating your heritage into your wedding is always a big hit and makes it stand out from your traditional wedding. I stopped by one of our local Filipino bakeries and grabbed some of my favorite treats for the shoot. Even if you don't have Asian backgrounds, have fun with some local delights! Hawaii has so much more to offer besides your traditional luau and shave ice for a wedding menu. Explore and embrace the mix of cultures we are made of, it's not called the mixing pot of the Pacific for no reason.

I love, love, love how dreamy and magical our rattan chaise looks all done up with florals from Ocean Dreamer. If you haven't noticed, I'm obsessed with all things "peacock chair" related and this throne was perfect for our bride!

Here's a few of my favorite shots from the styled shoot. To see more, hop over to the Wedding Chicks blog for the full feature.

Thank you to such a kick ass vendor team!

PS. Bet you'd never guess we were rained on most of the shoot! We had to dash and scramble when it would let up a few minutes in between the downpours. Fun fact about the east side? It rains- a lot. At one point I was holding 2 beach umbrellas over the table so it wouldn't get drenched! Wish I had a funny #BTS shot of that!

Thanks for reading! More content coming each week for ya!
